Hard times for a bad world

Fuck was once monstrous, a great scary word
Whose sound struck terror each time it was heard.
Children might say it, but parents would hope
To scrub it away, and washed kid's mouths with soap.

It rang through the gyms, was written in johns,
Employed and enjoyed by bubbas and dons.
Beloved by soldiers, cherished by sailors,
But not used in books - not even Norm Mailer's.

Though he could suggest it, Fuck couldn't be said,
So he wrote it as "fug" in "The Naked and Dead".
Dictionaries ignored it for quite a long while,
As Fuck flexed its muscles and grew potent and vile.

Ladies turned white; young maids blushed in shame
At the frightening sound of that terrible name.
But changes were coming and coming right fast,
And Fuck's fearsome impact couldn't long last.

When Fuck crept into verse and slipped into print,
Then we could say it, no more need to hint.
Its heard now in movies and in public speech.
It penetrates places it never could reach.

But no longer forbidden, Fuck's lost all respect.
It's become little more than a useless old wreck.
What's even worse, when itsd meaning was robbed
By that wimpy "make love" Fuck whimpered and sobbed.

Like a tired old boxer now sweeping the floors,
Fuck's relegated to menial chores.
As a no-account noun or an empty adverb,
It dreams of its past as as powerful bad verb

I really liked this piece. It was simple but the whole way you went about it showed some true talent.

^i like those pieces right there. The word play for me was on point. I think it's funny how a once so harsh word, seemed to have no affect on people now. I like how you brought that into view, and branched away from the typical topics. This was a nice read. Keep writin

This was really good... Very creative.. original..
It made me laugh a little as I remember an old friend of mine who would never curse.. and we spent weeks trying to get her to say just one word... and Fuck was the funniest. 'You dont just say fuck... you gotta put emphasis into it, and show the emotion when you do!' lol Gawd... had to be there heh ;)
Back to the piece... while in my head these thoughts arent so original, but to be written into poetry like this, was just great to see.. and you did it well... some of the lines were just genius..

Dictionaries ignored it for quite a long while,
As Fuck flexed its muscles and grew potent and vile.

Great write Twizzle.

Theres nothing I can say about the technical aspect of this. Everything was on que. The flow, the rhymes, the structure, everything.

As for the rest of the peice...

Hm... y'know every line you put into this seems to me to be the truth. And so when I read such literal lines, I take it as a literal meaning. But I know better, and everyone always has an ulterior motive to their peices. Kids today can't help but have double or even triple meanings in their peices.

But you put so much of reality into it, that it's hard to find the metaphor. But I found a metaphor, whether intended or not. Because this peice reminds me of a person who trys so hard to accomplish something, and when that person does, fateful irony turns it against that person. Kinda like... a person tries so hard to be a rap star. So very hard. And they do this, and they do that, and they get props, and they get respect. And then they finally reach a point where they have nowhere to go. Eazy E and Eminem are good examples of this, because then they just become parodys of themselves. Even bands like Metallica have become a joke of what they once were.

I think that' what I got out of it. I think it's like, somebody, anybody, tries so hard to accomplish something. But somethings have ways of accomplishing somebodys. But that's just me.
