what the hell is it. is it like a fake keyboard that hooks to your comp and plays synth?? if so i want one.. what the hell is it exactly. and do i need a special soundcard that has a midihookup.

midi hooks up through your gameport on your sound card you can also buy a special sound card that has actual midi ports... you can use any keyboard that has midi input and output plugs in the back of it. midi keyboard helps alot when producing instrumentals... definately get it... just go to a search engine on the internet and type in midi there are different types of midi instruments too... midi is an acronym that stands for something. like M (music) I (?) D(digital) I(interface)

pretty much every keyboard over $100 in value made in the last decade will have midi ports and can be used with a pc via the joystick port.

u can also get 'Controller' keyboards specifically for this purpose. A controller is a keyboard that can't play sound on it own. it has to be connected to a midi soundbank, such as a computers sound card.

newer midi keyboards are USB compatible, so u don't have to worry about having a joystick port.

I would go with the M-Audio Radium 61 USB, I have an M-Aduio Ozon, but wish I had more than 2 octaves. U can also go with something as simple as the Evolution Ekeys. The basic difference between low and high price is the quality of the key weight (like will it feel similar to a real piano or feel toyish) and extra assignable knobs.

i bought a 66 key yamah psm - 255 or something

i dont use the sound on it, but its 66 keys, and has midi...so its a REAL cheap midi controller...

and um, yes u HEAR the sound fine coming out of your shitty ass soundcard cause it is 44.1 / 16 bit...which is what all music is mixed down to ultimately. But when u wanna record..ur prolly recording at the same bit rate and sampling quality...

which is not good...

and also the signal to noise leve is not that great on stock cards..and there are a ton of other problems / specs
