The civil war was in its 7th year and the world war was three years away. Yes, there are unusual events in 2012 but they do not cause the world to end. To me it seemed Highly skeptical, he was trying to avoid any events in 2001 and beyond till about '04, '05. Pretty strange... Almost nothing was said about the near future.
