Joseph Stalin... here ill post a little about him....
1917 Russia had a communist revolution. The democratic government that had taken power in March was defeated and replaced by a Communist dictatorship under Lenin. A civil war broke out which lasted until 1921 (the “White Russians” i.e. supporters of the Tsar, were supported by Britain, Japan, Russia, USA and Canada. Troops were sent, but in the end the “Reds” i.e. Communists, won). Lenin died in 1924, a power struggle followed, eventually he was replaced by Joseph Stalin. Stalin introduced massive industrialization and the collective ownership of agriculture. All the peasants lost their land. During the 5 years plans massive industrialization took place. Agriculture virtually collapsed, millions of peasants starved to death. Industrialization took the form of heavy industry (i.e making things other factories needed, e.g. steel, hydro project). Propaganda claims said they met all their goals. Stalin had complete control of the media in all forms. The USSR became a great industrial power. Stalin was paranoid, he began purges to get rid of “undesirable elements”. He set up “show trials” where people “confessed” they were enemies of the state. These people included high ranking members of the Communist party, government officials, members of the armed forces, etc. Millions of people were killed by the secret police (KGB). Millions were sent into internal exile in prisons camps in Siberia called Gulags. Stalin killed between 20 to 30 million of his own people.
