It is by points...the rankings are done by points...
and in any kind of tournament...soccer or whatever...they usually put first vs. last...that way you dont get like (best out of the ill) vs. (best out of the wack) for the championship...it usually ends up 1st .vs. 2nd in the championship match but it still gives the others a shot...
