First, I had been anticipating this movie for quite some time. There were showing sneak peeks of it at other showings since October. I went to see "Coach Carter" last night with my aunt and two cousins, William and Harold, at Rivertowne AMC Theaters. We call it "niggatown" for short...
THe movie started out as expected, a losing team desperately in need of assistance. And, in walks Samule Jackson (Coach Carter) to save the day. Although this movie is hardly original--think Hoosiers, Lean on Me, Stand and Deliver, Dangerous Minds, and even Remember the Titans--it still works because of Samuel Jacksons convincing portrayal of the real-life controversial coach. Every element of this film is formulaic and predictable. But, it was still enjoyable to watch. As a film-goer, I was really drawn into the story and cared enough about the characters to keep my interest from waning.
I give "Coach Carter" 3 stars for it's charm and strong performances by Samuel L. Jackson and the other main characters. This movie is not a classic, but a definite must see.
