when i was a young kid i found that you were around
it went down you skipped town and left us without a sound
a frown was ground in my face my earliest memory bad
5 years old being told "shut up" for askin "where's dad?"
here's one you gettin me a bike tryin to teach me to ride
then givin up and tellin me that you were wastin your time
that hurt my pride and burnt my mind it also gave me a sign
scarred me for life i didn't learn to ride until i was nine
and it was never "look what i can do" it's "look what i can..."
before i'd finish whatever it was, was slapped out of my hand
but regardless i still hugged you though heartless i still loved you
though i know the fact of me bein an artist still bugged you
and though i knew it was wrong for me to miss you so long
I prolonged it for so long to face the fact you were gone
now that i'm older, grown and done buddin all of a sudden
you resurfaced talkin purpose no your worthless and disgustin
cause yea you left a mark on me a scar on my life
a sparklin dark as charcoal unremarkable blight
but whether my heart was severed you still left somethin better
you instilled in me the ability to battle through any weather
your words are still with me impossibility and "you can't!"
these words ring like a bell and i think "i'll be damned"
i won't let him be right and damn it i get the job done
no matter what happens in my life i'm never gonna run
i don't quit and i'll die fore' i resign to fate
and run myself into the ground before i walk away
from anybody who'll ever need though you've scarred me and ran
you scratched my mind body and soul but left the mark of a man
