The pope is the leader of a religion that spawned from christianity in the middle ages and lied to all of its followers, making them believe things like "you must make donations to the church to go to heaven." When people actually started reading the bible for themselves, they broke away from that church. Thats why theres so many different types of Christians today.

But anyway, what does the pope do? Nothing too important. He's kind of like the Queen of England; Everyone is supposed to give a shit about her but she doesn't do jack.
