stem cell research is NOT about selective traits of children...it's about researching taking cells and using them to regenerate other cells for people that are paralyZed, and researching to see if they can reverse some digenerative diseases like parkinson's and others as such...
personally, I don't see it as being GOD and yes, religioin HAS stopped a lot of scientific advancement, but for good reason, if people with the wrong motives got hold of permission to do research like this they'd be cloning kids and stuff like that...
of course, there should be restrictions on this stuff...this stuff might not be happening in the U.S. but there are labs in Mexico that do stem cell research and will help paralyZed people with this kind of things...
the best way to do stem cell research is likely the easiest way, stem cells are mainly found in cells that haven't been determined as what their specific use is, like cells inside of ambilocal (spelling) chords and amneotic fluid from new-borns...if the mother signs permission to give that to research there would be a lot more research going on and there wouldn't be any mis-haps about them cloning in order to GET stem cells and other cells...cuz really that's the only reason why scientists want to clone, is to actually GET the stem cells...
and it's not playing GOD, if it was playing GOD then everything we know now already is playing GOD, like open-heart surgery and organ transplants...
