*Songs of Harlem*...(GREAT POEM)

IP:

Listenin' to some rhythm and blues... songs of Harlem bleedin' through my fingertips...

Tender kisses of a somber saxophone,
Low sighs of jazz reveries,
Flowing like a pleasant scent in the breeze,
From some foreign flower,
Bittersweet Harlem Blues…

Hot friction, quick rubbin’ of caramel fingers,
Snappin’ to the rhythm, slow and distant…
Tales of harsh streets, cold nights, broken homes,
Mama’s repetitious prayin’,
To anything that’ll take time to listen…

I scream to the sky,

Make me stone!

No more pain, no more gain,
Lovin’ embraces from Loneliness,
Abandoned in a desolate confinement,
My eternal tomb,

Life…

16 miles, my weary legs are still walkin’,
Draggin’ down a useless path,
Dreams of mirrors, the face lookin’ in,

Ain’t mine…

I hear the demons callin’,
Deep within this tainted mind,
Their squeeling violins lurin’ me in…
Each shudderin’ breath,
I die…

A silky whisper of sorrowful poetry,
Neglected woes from brown lips,
Liquid pain streamin’, through an illusions’ eyes,
What’s it’s name? Who gives a damn?
Save your sympathies for someone who cares,
Stare at the woman next to you,
Latina… caramel sweetness… her…

Listen closely to this hymn I sing,
Savor it, like Sangria wine,
Delicious, rollin’ on your tongue: the taste of your lover’s kiss…
Bittersweet: memories of a not-so-long-ago past,
Clenched fists, hopin’ to find faith inside,
Not surprised to discover,

EMPTINESS…

Sway to the music,
That the solemn saxophone sacrifices,
The chocolaty poetry the lips whisper,
The story that my fingers wish to weave…

Songs of Harlem…
