I dunno, because I didn't intentionally try to go for a cartoonish look... May be the result of trying to make different parts look good together, i.e. unified...
My thought process when making graphics is usually like this...
1. I try to come up with a layout that is interesting, with good negative space.
2. Then I try to see which part is the most important then I emphasize that part.
3. Then I try to make the supporting parts a little different from the main part yet similar so that there's unity with some variation.
4. Then I tweak everything until things are balanced and I'm satisfied with the results.
Also...
Everything you see in most of my graphics is a mixture of atleast 4 different sources of pics blended together and I try to use good typography to match the images.
In the gun graphics at the top, I used a pic of... a gun, necklace, sticky notes, and a table.
In the bugs one, I used a pic of... a beetle, a smaller bug, house, magnifying glass, and a man screaming.
In the stop smoking one, I used a pic of... skeleton and lungs, but I made the eyes and all the other effects from scratch.
