Lil Jon and TVT Split Ways

IP:

After two multi-platinum releases, rapper/producer Lil Jon is reportedly looking to part ways with TVT Records.

Sources say the King of Crunk will cease to promote additional singles from Lil Jon & The Eastside Boyz's double platinum Crunk Juice. To date the effort has produced singles like "What U Gon' Do" featuring Lil Scrappy, "Real ni99as Roll Call" with Ice Cube and "Lovers and Friends" featuring Usher and Ludacris. Apparently Jon told friends that he won't record another LP for TVT.

"He's unhappy," a source told New York's Daily News. "It's about money."

On the other hand, TVT President Steve Gottlieb told the Daily News, "Lil Jon and TVT have had huge success building the crunk movement together and we fully expect to enjoy even greater success in the future."

Jon helped shape TVT in to one of the U.S.'s biggest independent record companies. To date Jon has produced several chart-topping hits for Usher, Ciara and labelmates Ying Yang Twins. Aside from his TVT contract, Jon also has a label deal, the Warner Bros.-distributed BME Records. Acts on the roster include Lil Scrappy, Trillville and veteran Bay Area rapper E-40.

TVT recently got dealt a huge blow when an appeals court reversed a judge's ruling that would have ordered Island Def Jam and former exec, Lyor Cohen to fork up $53 million. TVT will now only receive $126,720. In the case, TVT accused Def Jam and Cohen of pulling out of an agreement to allow Def Jam artist Ja Rule to release an album with his Cash Money Click on TVT records. TVT said it would appeal the decision.
