Don't you consider the Oscars awards? Well, the Academy "votes" on those movies only after the Studio themselves Solicit them by submitting movies for consideration...
in other words...they don't say "VOTE FOR HOTEL RWANDA"...But, unless Paramount or whoever literally sends them a DVD of HOTEL RWANDA, the Academy wll not consider it...
So...Sometimes, you have to make what u did known...this bullshit of "ur work will speak for itself" doesn't always work...if it did, you wouldn't have people making threads "Who's the most underrated rapper"
