when your computer starts up it should say something like press delete for setup or something or BIOS, press delete before the windows thing starts up where it should say the brand name of your motherboard in the beginning...press delete and it will go into BIOS. Then go to the drives section which will have your hardrives and cd/dvd drives listed, the first drive thats being checked is the floppy which is why you say you need a floppy 98 boot disc but you dont, you have to switch the floppy from 1st and replace it with your cd/dvd drive...this means that instead of the computer booting something from the floppy it will look on the disc. So just switch the floppy with the cd/dvd shit, restart and put the cd in and it will run the boot setup, not the original windows installation...during the boot shit it wont be installing windows but it will ask if you want to delete your hardrive completely and install only windows on it, if you want to, delete it and go on with the windows installation

thats all if you want to install windows xp on a machine without a boot disc

peace
I have the 6 XP boot disk's sitting right infront of me. I'll load them up and go through the process today and see if it gives me the option to reformat before installation. And I have my bios configured for floppy disk's from a previous reformat.

if you have mad spyware and virus's and shit then yea reformat your machine and start from scratch its the best way good luck

Websites can download things to your computer when you visit them automatically without telling you. I know what I'm doing, this usually wouldnt be a problem except the spyware also turned my system restore off and lost all of my save points. They also automatically move important system .dll files into their directory so that if you delete their folder thinking it will get rid of it, your computer will stop running. You might say, the only reason I'm still able to use this computer at the moment is because I know what I'm doing. At the time that this happened I hadnt installed any firewalls or spyware protectors though, that was my problem.

I doubt people that are that computer illiterate would think to press f8 at the start up screen and select an option for restarting in dos. XP simply doesent give an option to restart in dos properly. Which is bullshit, .....hence the point of this thread.
