A mainstream artists "mixtape" (which isn't even a "tape" these days) is usually for "stret cred", like they'll make hard songs that the label wouldnt let em put on the album or assemble some tracks that werent good enough quality or there's another song like it on the album, or an original version of a track, etc. It's not for "junk music" from the artist. Some of the low qual shit ad that purity to it, so don't BS on it. There's cult followings for mixtapes as a whole chief, lol.
Oh, if you're using Dre's instrumentals and you put out an "Album" OOOORR "Mixtape" without paying him leasing rights for it you're going to get you and your parents sued into oblivion. You can't sell a CD or do a show for money if you're using a beat from a producer who's music you took without their legal consent. That 'legal consent' = "$$$" or them pretty much saying "you can use it". "Mixtapes" usually contain mainstream instrumentals with that artist spitting over em, but they don't pump em out in stores since they'll get sued. Legally, anything less than about 1000 copies is considered "reasonable": since you're nobody yet, but you may still end up getting sued if someone's pittbull enough to get their legal team to persue it. Keep that in mind.
As for the vynl, I'll let you and him decide the price, but it's far more $$ than I think you're thinking to get em done. The min order on records I could get was 300 and at a little over $5/ea and came in a little over $1600 bucks. For 300CD's I paid "a lot less" than that. WELL under $1000 for a "mixtape" which is great and my shit isn't homeless and raggedy looking. My album insert isn't printer paper, it's hard card stock like a flier and it's double sided (the track names/orders are on the inside), glossy, and my CD has print on it saying my name, the album's name, The Rush Ent and my contact info.
For an Album (which I would have had glasswork done and mastering) that same amount of CD's would have been about 3-4x what I paid to get the Mixtape done aqnd that's not including any legal shit. At this point in the game man, for what we're all trying to do (get a buzz going) it's jsut too expensive for what you get, since no one in the world is gonna care if you got your shit glassed or not whne they never heard of you.
I think what you should do is post up what you're trying to achieve and a REALISTIC max budget. It's way easier to do this that way than to re-structure existing points of your 'plan'.
