the kid is stupid for making that last comment due to the fact that the smart kids are making fun of him because they're smarter than him. therefore they are smart for doing so, and the kid is still dumb.

edit: however he might not mean stupid as in lacking n knowledge. he may be referring to the fact that they have no common sense because it would be more constructive to help the stupid kid gain more knowledge than cussing him for his lack of it.
