Oldies rule, you mentioned Aretha Franklin but also Marvin Gaye to name another, gotta respect and love it.

But the more old school type of tracks have a more genuine vibe to it for me. The newer, more mainstream songs are dope for partying and such but not to really listen to when you want to write some or just you know get into it. It's not because it is recent music that it cannot have the more old school vibe though, many amongst the so-called underground scene.
