I can lighten myself up with the prospect that since time is eternal, something could've evolved to the point it can make an afterlife, or in sometime in the future they'll have the power to resurrect us.

And that dream is crashed by the equally likely chance the highly evolved creature is evil and will make me its undead, mindless slave.
