Based on the extremely popular C03 studio condenser, the C03U delivers the same pristine audio quality and enhanced capabilities along with a high quality A/D converter and USB output. No more need for expensive converter boxes or pre-amps. The C03U plugs right into your USB jack on any machine running Mac OS X or Windows XP and records pristine audio right into any postproduction or audio recording software such as GarageBand®. Record vocals, acoustic instruments, nature sounds in the field—anything, anywhere with studio-quality sound.

The C03U features dual 19mm internally shock mounted diaphragms with switchable omni, cardioid, and figure-8 pick-up patterns. Perfect for recording vocals or any acoustic instrument plus the selectable patterns make it ideal for a variety of specialized recording situations, like multiple vocalists, ambient room miking, and even a group of people around a conference table recording a Podcast. The C03U works perfectly on almost any USB compliant computer, and with most DAW software programs without having to install any extra software or drivers.

The C03U is just £89 RRP inc VAT and will ship in the Spring of 2006.

wow, I think Samson's being more than a little ambitious when they call the C01U a "studio quality" mic. It's a great mic for what it was designed for (quick, cost effective, and reasonably clear home set-ups), but they're stretching reality a bit far on that one lol. This mic LOOKS ok, but how's it SOUND? I wouldn't be surprised at all if it shares all the components of the C01U but with a different capsule (since it can go omnidirectional, not just cardoid and hyper cardoid). I trust that they didn't exploit the design of a USB mic and just pair up two of the C01U's caps! We're dealing with a company that knows how to trim down a budget, so anything's possible.

A Frequency Response Chart would be useful, if for nothing more than to compare it with the C01U, but from a company who makes mics for Radioshack, don't expect this mic to be leaps and bounds apart from it's sibling. If there's one common diaphragm, sharp ears would notice a loss in clarity and vocal accuracy from having to move a heavy-duty (more heavy than duty) diaphragm that's built for 2 people to scream into it, instead of one. Diaphragm size is going to make a difference as well.

We need more info, Tone!
