Depends on what you want to be bigger, and your friend is wrong. More reps doesn't make you bigger, just tones.
Do more weight, and less reps. But make sure you can do at least 8 reps per exercise. The best way is to focuss on certain areas on certain days. Like
Mon- Squat, chest flys, etc... Mainly focusing on shoulders and chest
Tues- Conditioning and abs
Wed- Bench, dumbells, etc... Mainly focusing on arms and biceps
Thurs- Conditioning and abs
Fri- Dead lift, leg press, etc... Mainly focusing on legs and hips
You just have to condition your whole body, because you won't get stronger if you only focus on a certain area everyday. And be sure to stretch, it strengthens you.
