No son, you're missing the point. This philosophy is one Jesus taught and is also found in other religions. To that point, Jews believed, "Love your friends and hate your enemies." Jesus crushed this view by asserting, "God is kind even to the unkind and evil." The "golden rule" is a divine principle that Jesus admonishes us to use, if we wish to truly be blessed. The same can be said of giving. Those who want alot, must GIVE alot. Therefore, because you reap what you sow, treating others ensures that you get what you deserve (or want). If I want love, I have to give love. If I want peace, I have to give peace. You see, by giving up my seat, someone else will have one. But, if someone else did the same for me, I'd have one. And, if someone did it for them, they'd have one. It's a principle that would yield blessings for all those involved. The "golden rule" is truly a Godly principle. What you're referring to is wisdom. That's another issue. This rule refers to concepts and attitudes more than actual things or objects. Give Peace. Give love. Give happiness. NO one can "earn" your love. You just give it. We as sinners certainly didn't EARN God's love, but he still showered us with it in that, "while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."
This principle is speaking about virtues. The world says TAKE, take, and take to get what you want. Jesus says Give, give, and give to be blessed. Think about it. A clinched fist can't receive anything else.
