The quote above shows the casual usage of racial comments that weren't even given a second thought, but rather excepted without question for fear of persecution... Or even discharge from the navel academy.

2.) Cuba had been previously injured, when an anchor was accidentally release and it severed his leg. After extensive therapy and use of a protestic leg he learned to function just as well as any other man. To be excepted back into the naval program he had to put on all of the scuba gear, which had been atered since his injury and was heavier. In order for most to be excepted back they need 10 steps in the gear on dry land (I think 10), but the judge made him do 20 (again, not sure) in the court room. Which he still did.

This even representing the lack of racial equality, and the attitude towards accepting African American males into high ranked naval/political possitions.
