Why buy a mixer when you can do everything that hardware does..through lossless software? This is the new age man, lol, the music industry has finally accepted that people record directly to their computers. With the $196 you could spend on the mixer, you can get an "interface" (the name for any hardware that has USB or Firewire as it's output, instead of 1/4" phono, XLR, etc) and still have some money left over for some good studio headphones, better wires, etc.
At the rate you're going, you'll eventually need to spend mad duckets on some high-zoot soundcard just to get the same clear sound that you'd get from coming in digitally as USB or Firewire anyway, and end up spending WAY more in the process.
