Yeah, some parents do take it too far. and you're exactly right. The slightest hint of anger, for anything...can completely warp a childs mind into believing something, when in reality...that anger was out of frusteration for something completely different.
You need a balance of everything, you also need to understand personality. Allow the child to grow into it's own person..without forcing your own beliefs on him/her...by expressing yourself to them, without being over bearing... to help them shape there own ideals without feeling like there going to be resented.
They need to know punishment is a result of disobediance...and disobediance doesn't involve thinking for themselves.
