^^That's actually a stereotype. From personal experience, I've found that many gay guys who are social tend to be in shape (esp. abs) because it's a stigma in the gay community to be fat--hence the saying "NO FATS NO FEMS".
Taking care of yourself beyond the basics is widely looked upon as a "feminine" trait, which is why gay guys--who are often viewed as effeminate--don't have problems expressing it.
I don't believe gay men are more attractive than straight men. I think the same variability in appearance is present in both the gay and straight communities. However, like I stated before, being particular about the way you dress and maintain your hygiene are more feminine than masculine.
You didn't ask, but I'd classify myself as inbetween on that spectrum. I'm not a disgustingly overly macho guy. But, I'm not a feminine, stereotypically acting gay guy either. I'm a regular joe in that respect. When I used to go out to the clubs when I was maybe 10 lbs overweight, the first thing a gay guy would do is feel my obliques to see if I had a belly or not. So, I started to feel self-conscious and started workin out more.
