well...the discrepancy lies in the fact that blacks make up only 13-15% of the population in the US, but make up a hugely disproportionate percentage of the prison population. So, that begs the question: "Do more blacks commit more crimes than whites?" There are more white people in this country. So, you would think that more white people would commit more crimes because there are more here. And, yet, you still have a higher percentage of blacks in prison relative to their population in the U.S. Why is that? Some will say that blacks are less likely to afford proper counsel during indictment and eventually a trial. Some say that blacks are more likely to be convicted of a crime over their white counterparts. I don't know. Whatever the case may be, race relations in this country are still tender.
