I'll use a story to illustrate my point.

There is an old farmer living in a small town and his horse ran away. Everyone in town comes to him and says "oh, thats too bad your horse ran away, isnt that terrible." He replies "maybe." Then next day, his horse returns with seven other horses. Everyone in town comes to his house and says "Oh look, isnt that wonderful, now you have 8 horses!" ... "Maybe," says the farmer. The next day his son was trying to tame one of the horses, but he got thrown off and broke his leg. Everyone in town comes to his house and says "Oh no, we're so sorry about your son breaking his leg, poor boy." The farmer says "Maybe." Then next day the conscription officers came to town looking for people to recruit to fight in the war. They reject the farmers son because he has a broken leg. Everyone in town comes to the farmers house and says "Oh, your son didnt have to go to war because of his leg, isnt that lucky!" ... The farmer replies, "maybe."

You see what I mean? You can't gauge any situation as good or bad, it simply doesnt exist in reality. It exists in the social construct within our minds, but thats all.
