Actually Kempo, generic does mean plain, and basic. But it also means something else, Nelson just misunderstood.

He's basically saying Nelson, (I love saying that.. Nelson, lol) .... that the punch is a generic type of punch. Like me calling you fat, or saying you are gay... they are all generic types of punches.... and then you put a fresh flip on them to make them decent.
