The Descent
Right, this movie is really good the first time you watch it. But, it quickly loses its appeal as it lacks any kind of character development and the acting in my opinion is sub-par. When compared to the Director's first movie, DOG SOLDIERS this movie just doesn't quite hold up as well. The little creatures in the cave, I haven't got a clue what they are supposed to be. But, they look like naked reject vampires from Blade 2... those little gay fucks with the fucked up mouths, but in this movie they are without the homo mouths. Anyway, the suspense in the movie has its moments. There are a few times when you jump out of your seat. If you like gory movies, then this will satisfy your gore needs to a degree. There is one part in particular when one of the women gets stabbed through the throat with this scythe-like blade.
The creatures themselves, despite looking absolutely gay, the way they appear in the movie is decent. And by that, I mean the way they move around... it sort of reminds me of Gollum in Lord of the Rings. Although, I think the whole they see by sound is a little played out.
As I said with the acting, it was sub par and I think the only actress who really performs is the main character. I can not remember her name though, lol. You'll know who I mean if you have seen it. The way she portrays the survival instincts of a person trapped in that sort of situation is very well done, although a tad overdone at times.
The one part I did enjoy was the ending, I actually believed she had escaped the cave but then it turns out that she hasn't. And well, I thought it was a nice way to end it. Her mind playing tricks on her, her dreaming that she had escaped. And then it got fucked up with the little girl in the cave with her. WHAT THE FUCK!! I get the idea of what they are trying to say, but it was unnecessary.
Overall Rating: 7/10 the first time you see it, and then afterwards probably 5/10.
Lol, but I still bought it when it got released on DVD. Word.
