A Lansing man was arrested Tuesday after a woman said he tried to sexually assault her and then flee on a bus.
Battle Creek police arrested the 19-year-old man after stopping the bus on I-194 and bringing the victim to identify him along the side of the road.
The woman, 18, told police the man attempted to solicit her for sex at the Intermodal bus and train station at 104 Capital Ave. S.W., according to Sgt. David Wilcox.
When she refused, he forced her across the street near The Rink and attempted to sexually assault her. She fought with him and was punched in the face, Wilcox said.
The suspect then fled and left on a bus.
Police were notified at 3:57 p.m. and learned the suspect was on an Indian Trails bus.
A few minutes later, officers from Battle Creek and the Michigan State Police stopped a bus southbound on I-194 just north of the I-94 interchange.
The suspect was identified, and the victim was brought to the scene where police had stopped the bus along the highway.
Several passengers, including the suspect, stood behind the bus while the woman, inside a patrol car, was driven close to make a possible identification.
A few minutes later, the suspect was placed back into a patrol car, and Wilcox said the suspect was being arrested on a charge of attempted first-degree criminal sexual conduct.
The bus, en route to Lansing, Saginaw and Bay City, was released at 5:25 p.m.
The woman was treated for minor injuries at Battle Creek Health System
