In college I used Optimum Nutrition's vanilla flavored whey protein mixed with milk. Mixing it with water made it too thin and didn't taste as good. I thought the vanilla flavor was better than the chocolate because it didn't have that much of an aftertaste.
A really cheap way to get protein is buying cans of tuna. You wouldn't believe how much protein a tiny can of tuna has... check the pic below.. ~32g in one can and barely any fat. I made tuna fish sandwiches with mayo.
