YO this questrion and answer from ask Vic regarding that:
Jonathan from Orange Park, FL: Now that Del Rio has stated Leftwich is the number one guy, will the Jags need to re-do his current contract? Will money play any part in Byron staying with the team? Does he even warrant number one QB money?
Vic: You’ve moved too far ahead. First things first and the first thing is to find out what Byron Leftwich’s reaction is to his coach’s proclamation that Leftwich is and will be the team’s starting quarterback heading into training camp. It’s imperative that the Jaguars know whether or not Leftwich is committed to being the team’s starting quarterback. You can’t have a starting quarterback miss the voluntary OTA practices in spring, then show up the day before the start of training camp. The team needs a reaction to this announcement from Leftwich before the trading season begins, for the obvious reason. Does he want to stay in Jacksonville? That’s the next question that has to be answered. This is a step-by-step reclamation project. The first step was taken by Jack Del Rio yesterday. The second step belongs to Leftwich. The ball is in his court now.
^definately how it is
