Again, study the context in which the Bible was written.
Hermeneutics and exegesis. Studying the times, cultures and writers in order to understand what the Bible is saying.
A lot of the Bible can't just be taken for what it says. You have to understand who's writing that portion, who they're writing to, where they were and what the culture was like.
