Crafting your own world requires crafting cultures, people, and religions. Geographic locations, etc, etc. Details of how everything looks, how the weather reacts...the factors are really endless. Though you can only see as much detail as you can imagine.
It is a lot of work versus using a world that is already created and living for you, with you being able to see details of the world with your very eyes instead of your imagination.

I feel you on that, it took me months to craft the world I'm using for my stories. I got about 20 different maps for it. I had to make a history, all the geographical locations, cultures/religions for each individual race, a history for each race, plus a bunch of other shit.
The hardest thing I found is trying to create your own language, that is something I am trying to really learn how to do at the moment whilst I write.
