It was actually because it was faster than the M3 convertible. You see the M3 was much heavier because of the rag top mechanics. He used to run track in the thing. I always thought it was rather gay, bunch of illiterate 45yr old white dudes with their inbred offspring hootin an hollerin at a bunch of smoke and muffler sparks.
He traded that puppy in for one of em caddy convertibles with the corvette engines in it.....now that shit rocks.....if your a speed racer kinda guy
