Canibus - Rip The Jacker Review
IP:
Canibus has been known to deliver excellent lyricism on his LPs, but the production has always been lacking. This time around, he recruited Stoupe of Jedi Mind Tricks fame to co-create the album he should've released in 1998. Here's a quick track run-down:
1. Intro - This sets the mood for the album perfectly. Score: N/A
2. Genabis - Stoupe supplies a great beat. Canibus spits some "I'm the illest in the universe" type shit. Nice track. Score: 4/5
3. Levitabus - Production is lovely. Canibus comes off on some scientific type shit. Hook is nice. Score: 4.5/5
4. M-Sea-Cresy - The beat is flames. Canibus spits some philosophical type shit here. The scratched hook is nasty. Score - 4/5
5. No Return - The beat is flames here too. Canibus has three different verses about being killed. The hook is hot. Score - 5/5
6. Spartibus - Stoupe provides another banger. Canibus spits some more "I'm the illest" type shit here. Hook fits perfectly. Score - 4.5/5
7. Indisible - The production is nice on this as well. Canibus comes off nicely about his part in hip-hop. Score - 4/5
8. Showtime At The Gallow - The beat is on some slow latin shit. Canibus comes off nicely. Score - 4/5
9. Psych Evaluation - Stoupe supplies a hard ass beat. Canibus straight rips it. Score - 4.5/5
10. Cemantics - Stoupe supplies another hard beat. Canibus rips it again. The scratched hook gets me hype. Score - 4.5/5
11. Poet Laureate II - This track is amazing. The production is beautiful. Canibus spits for about 7 minutes. He starts off rapping about finding WAX of a rapper named Canibus' rhymes . . then the beat switches up and he lets it all go. He touches on a lot of subjects here. Great track. Score - 5/5
This has gotta be Canibus' best album to date. This album is lyrically beautiful. Production wise, Stoupe has got what Canibus has been missing, amazing backdrops to go along with Canibus' amazing rhymes. Poet Laureate II shows why Canibus is the illest. If you sit through the entire album, you'll be wow'ed. This album came as a shock to me. I thought Canibus was finished after C True Hollywood Stories because Mic Club was not impressing me, but he definately came through this time. What's next? Hopefully a Stoupe produced Horseman album (One can only hope). Hot shit 'Bis.
Overall Rating: 4/5
