The definition of a bar: The metrical division of music into groups of beats, and marked by vertical barlines drawn across the musical staff. Also known as 'measure'. Its main purposes are to indicate the placement of rhythmic emphasis and to be a visual aid to musicians

so basicly when u write ur lyrics 1 bar is equal to the amount of syllables used in 4 beats. so if 1 line on the paper = 1 bar, then every line you write must take up 4 beats. if you grasp this concept producing and writing songs will be much easier, and you can procede to more complicated song making. but this is a basic concept that all musicians need to know and follow in order to succeed.
