there's still sum raw hip hop out there: Talib, Mos Def, Ganstarr, The Roots, Jurassic 5, Dead Prez, etc. but it's not mindless head noddin in your car rap, or bumpin in a a club rap which seems to be what MTV and Radio want to push the most. Prolly cuz it appeals to the largest audience. Marvel is right, after Eminem rappers realised that if they appeal white kids (85% of Rap Buyers are white) they'll make a shitload more cash. I think what people frustrated at is that the mainstream changed n mc's who might have gotten pushed in the past ain't cuz they won't sell as much to kids who barely know the difference between Naz and Justin Timberlake.
So they make dumb pop rap where the lyrics aren't important. All they want is a beat with a hook and a lyrical style that complements the beat. THe rapping is just anutha instrument in the track to the producer, instead of being the focal point.
It's kinda ironic cus Eminem still puts out some decent material, but he also puts out a lot of the new type rap, n 50 is entirely 'don't have to pay attention to the lyrics' type rap. It's a problem cuz a lot of the guys who are chossin the next acts (Puffy, Dre, etc) don't care about the lyrics no more. It's all about how big will the album sell.
