However, Primary and Highschool is 100% free to anyone living in Australia, Australian or not... and I believe the biggest difference is that our government pays initially for all tertiary education in Australia, therefore any Australian can attend without the requirement of fees or scholarships etc.
What Im wondering is this... Doesnt a good proportion of the American Dollar go towards educating people (among other things) in other countries in the form of foreign aid? Arent you paying for their free education also?
Where exactly is the line drawn, that limits the 'Land Of Opportunity' for everyone, anyone... American or not.
Do American policies in fact favour non-Americans or immigrant Americans, more so over your own citizens?
Maybe society isn't as blind as you think..
You yourself said you couldnt care less about the aliens recieving drivers licences. Why? Because that didnt directly affect you or your pay packet. Although Im sure there are Americans out there who are affected, that do care. Maybe, just as you didnt care about that, others, who arent affected by education issues, simply dont care about this?
You cant pick and choose where you get involved, based on what affects you.. if you truly want to be an activist for your people, its all or nothing. Especially if you want others to get behind you, and get involved in your cause.

^Interesting point you have there. Let me spell out my opinion because I think I can clear up some of your questions. I am the sole earner in a family of three, which includes a toddler. Financial aid will only pay for 65% of my tuition because they say that I earn too much, I am over 18, and since I am not married then I cannot count my girlfriend as a dependent. Now since I work I have to pay taxes right? I make to much to qualify for aid for myself...hence i struggle to try and further my education, while my extra money goes to the government and they decide to give the money to someone who is in the country illegally, not contributing(paying taxes) a free ride? I'm sorry if you disagree but that really PISSES ME OFF.
Too often in this country we become so concerned with matters outside our border we forget the people inside of them. For the record I cared about the issue of giving licenses to immigrants....there is a safety issue involved with that. It will make the people who are already in the country responsible for the actions on our roads....i.e. they will have to have proof of registration, insurance etc.
Foreign aid and free college tuition is two entirely different things...while I don't mind giving money to a third world country to help young children get a better education, I do mind giving someone the chance to attend a major university on MY DIME while I have to perform miracles to do it myself....just a thought though....
