1. The stereo delay

A very easy way of enhancing a stereo field is to apply a short delay on one of the channels in a stereo pair. I'll use my template setup as an example:

Starting on an empty rack I create two new mixers. The first mixer is dedicated to sounds generally not in need of any stereo enhancement, the bass and bassdrum for example. The second mixer is for sounds benefiting from stereo enhancement. Now if you turn the rack around you'll notice the wires between the mixers, the second mixer being slaved to the first one. Insert a delay on one of the channels, left or right - as long as only one of them are delayed. Set the delay to somewhere between 10-14ms and the feedback to minimum. Once your song is taking form you should experiment with the panning knob on the stereo delay to position the total stereo field correctly.

2. Delay panning automation

This is also a very easy way to create interesting stuff in the stereo field. All you have to do is select the delay you want to automate, create a new Matrix. Turn the rack over to check that the matrix curve cv is connected to the pan connector on the delay. Also select if you want a bipolar or unipolar curve - bipolar seems to be the curve of choice here so I suggest you use that one. Now you have to draw a curve in the matrix curve editor, try experimenting with different step lengths and curves. Make sure the matrix is playing the pattern as you hit play on the transport (I can't tell you how many times I forgot that...)

3. Chorus

The chorus can also be used to widen the stereo field, I generally would recommend you using one of the above methods since the chorus tends to add unwanted effects to the sound if not correctly set up.
