Monty Python are actually very popular over in the US. It's more universal. Cos it has satire. Both subtle and blatant. Add onto that surrealism. And and overall cover of silliness and what not (and of course some excellent writing and execution of sketches) you got some genius work.
What they did was actually some brilliant social commentary on British life. And other western countries could relate in many parts too.
