Hip-Hop Charts: Tupac's 'Resurrection' Skyrockets, Ja Rule Claps Back

This week in the Hip-Hop charts, Tupac is on pace to move 350,000 units, Ja Rule claps back, Wyclef, Fabolous and Too Short have modest starts and the south hold down the Top 20.
While Death Row's Nu-Mixx Klassics has sold modestly to date, Pac's Tupac:Resurrection promises to surpass its total sales in one week. According to early reports from national accounts, the soundtrack is poised to move a whopping 350,000 units in its first week.
This week in the new releases, Hip-Hop drops four LPs, yet Ja Rule's Blood In My Eye stands as the only debut to chart in the Top 10. Despite what first appeared to be a severe backlash, Ja Rule enters the Billboard charts at no. 6 with 140,000 copies sold according to Nielsen Soundscan, a noteworthy comeback though nearly 100,000 units less than his previous effort. Further down, Wyclef Jean's fourth solo project, The Preacher's Son, debuted at no.22 on Billboard charts with only 52,404 units sold -- scoring as Clef's lowest debut to date. Right behind the ex-Fugee, Fabolous lands at no.23- selling 50,104 of his More Street Dreams mixtape in its first week. Lastly, with little to no promotion, Too Short's Married To The Game lands at no. 38 on the Hits chart selling 38,877 units.
Meanwhile, holding down the Top 20 for several weeks are Outkast, Ludacris and Chingy. Though they've relinquished the top spot this week, Kast has managed to up its sales 5 percent. In its 7th week, Speakerboxxx/The Love Below lands at no.5 and moves 148,000 units according to Soundscan. Still in Atlanta, Ludacris sells another 88,000 CDs this week after five weeks on the charts with a 14 percent sales hit, the album now holds down the Billboard 200's 10th slot. On the other hand, Luda's protégé, Chingy has once again hiked his sales this week. In its 17th week, Jackpot goes up 8 percent, lands at no. 19 on the Hits chart and sells 58,585 units.
Once chart toppers, Obie Trice, 50 Cent and Lil Jon all now sit in the low 40s on Hits. In his 7th week, Obie is on a slow decline with an 8 percent sales decrease, selling 33,998 units of Cheers stands at no. 43 on the charts. Two slots down, 50 Cent stands at no. 45, pushes 26,168 copies of Get Rich.... Now 54 weeks into the charts, Lil Jon and The Eastsideboyz' Kings Of Crunk may finally be making an exit, selling 26,464 units to land Kings of Crunk at no. 49. Meanwhile, Loon and DMX free fall from the Top 50.
Next week, look for Tupac: Resurrection to combat Toby Keith and Sarah McLachlan while Jay-Z and G-Unit's November 14th releases battle for the top spot.
