Behold what is the outer crust, a shell of age that withers and dies
But within, the candle of youth burns, longing for adventure and surprise
The clock rolls on; the years make me weak, a frame so decrepit
Inside my head looks at eternity, an everlasting movie that nothing can edit
Even as the body becomes frail, and the heart struggles to stay alive
A little boy sits inside my unbreakable garden playing, still at the age of five
Time passes by, the world changes and my body fights to keep paces
And all the while I can still see myself at school, running those old races
With no mobility without support, chances of more life are looking slim
Then my eyes close to a slideshow of me playing on the Jungle Gym
Alone in my bed, staring into an empty night, my end just seems cruel
But even so, I smile as I playback images of my journey through school
False hopes of surviving longer, I know that weeks are an exaggeration
So I travel back through time to sit at the back of my own graduation
Day after day in the same surroundings, and I never find enjoyment
So I pick back through scenes, then I pick out one of my first employment
I am completely bedridden now with minimal interaction, but thankfully,
I can look back as a proud husband and father, smiling at my family
So as I lie in my bed, edging closer to death, I can really feel very pleased
Because I will let the body die, but inside I say “Long Live the Memories.”
