New Zealand is said to have one of the best hip hop scenes in the world. It was one of the first countries after the USA to have success in hip hop. This rivalry is highlighted by the annual (but discontinued) Australia Vs New Zealand: MC Battle For Supremacy.

Swedish hip hop emerged in the mid 1980s and by the early 1990s a lot of "ethnic Swedish acts" like Looptroop, "immigrant acts" like The Latin Kings and mixed acts like Infinite Mass switched from English to rapping in "Rinkeby Swedish", a pidgin language of sorts, when they were making records for the domestic market.
