upping means that your posting to send your battle back up to the top of the screen so more people will be likely to check on it and vote...since a lot of a battles take place every hour yours might get bumped down to the bottom of the page or even moved back a page or two...you can up it to move it back to the top of the first page, but only 5 times or you will be dq'ed
