“How y'all chasin' dreams when what's tangible still outruns ya”

The fates constantly change, another crack addict on the street lost in dire straits
Thousands of souls knocking on heaven's gates, reckoning this divine life awaits
An abandoned child, selfishly left behind by her mother, not even 16 years of age
That decided to live the wild life until the tables turned, a new chapter, new page
Just a few examples I give to show the state of despair our society's currently in
Scars carved deep in the world's skin, people try to reconcile with the original sin
These tears rolling down pitch-dark cheeks, allow yourself to take a closer look
Witness the pain within a mother's heart written in her diary, I'll expose her book

Dear Diary,

Those stories I’ve read, about hoodlums here but I didn’t believe what they said
Though as the noisy rumors spread, I started tossing and turning in my shaky bed
Whether the reflection in my eyes is a moon or sun, the anxiety cannot be undone
Questioning: Where is my son? Is he just looking for fun or running from the gun?
Why would he possibly choose this last road, why would he prefer that corner?
Gossip runs high amongst community; I’ll explode if I hear “I tried to warn her”
Once again because it’s driving me insane, no more peace inside my tired brain
Does he not feel my pain when he’s covering the downs with highs on cocaine?
Often wondered why he went astray, what could’ve possibly made him this way
But day by day, I started to realize the one reason why a cliché is called a cliché
Since it speaks on reality, therefore it is bound to be used too much as morality
One of those is: “money makes the world go round” and truth is spoken indeed
Those green little papers he needs, selfish yes but necessary in order to succeed
Cash stacked in his underwear drawer, many dark figures knocking on our door
As an eagle he wishes to soar but I’m scared time will come his luck is no more
Fear surrounds my entire being, maybe one day his heart will suddenly stop racing
Then death he’ll be facing but who can blame him for those dreams he is chasing
I wish he’d appreciate what he already has and realize his life is fragile like glass
Alas, he does not believe his luck will pass even though it’s normal it won’t last
Merely hope that what’s tangible will still be here when he finally opens his eyes
And releases himself from a web of lies, become wise though still reach the skies
For it is okay to chase your dreams as long as you know nothing’s what it seems
But if you can keep it real and keep away from schemes and atrocious extremes
Though still dare to take risks but also appreciate what’s already there and exists
You’ll chase and reach, not be outran by what you missed but continue to persist
Your quest for a realization of your goals, no matter how your life path now rolls
Hoodlum, hustler, hoe…they are all roles when we’re in search of our true souls
