for the money you'll def liek the perception the most, most crisp clear sound of the bunch. save your $50 and invest it in good cables, like Monsters. Quote:
the interface alone is powered by the USB port. the mic needs phantom power, so you can actually get an interace with a built in phantom, or you can do what it did and get an external phnatom power supply for like 25-35 bucks. Comes out cheaper in the long run to do em seperate, but that ones more device with wires you need in the chain and so on, really just a matter of personal prefference. If you wanna keep em seperate, Fast Track USB is your target! Quote:
sounds liek you're on the right track my man, already got some great choices on the table. hopefully this helps pull everything together for you holl-r

if you can find an NT1a in the $200 range, get it. it's marginally better than the perception so if you can find em for the same price, get the Nt1a.
don't get any marshall mics, don't get any shure mics. other than that special situation pretty much this is the best of the mics you'll find in the $200 range imo.

word that's a good link by Tony btw, def worth hopping onto. And I don't know if you need 2 mic inputs but the US122 is a great interface. All interface are just go-betweens for digital signals from the mic to the computer and don't affect the actual "sound" at all so they're all created equally. just a matter of which one suits your needs. avoid the old M-audio units that pre-date the Fast Track. Quote:
Yeah the SM57 is their best dynamic, but it's still not on par with even some mid-range condensers. the SM57 is more for live performances it's more of a handling mic. not a studio mic. Shure makes an SM57C which is a pretty nice condenser overall, but in general, skip it. better mics for the money.
