But I feel that now a days rappers aren't creating hits, they are simply buying hits, like its been a few certain producers who make hot beats, just blaze, timberland, neptunes, etc. I feel that rap has fallen of... becuase it seems like we have come to a time... where its the beats that sell not the lyrics... like pac the cat made any beat sound hot..... for example hit em up.... its a pretty simple beat... but he made it seem hotter than it really is... and now you got shit like cash money comin out... people feelin they shit but pay attention to the lyrics.... any one else agree?

^l0l...i'd love to see "Cause Of Death" bagin' int he club sometime..would be classic!!^

Meh...You need and decent beat and good lyrics, not many mainstream people can accomplish that these days... if you want dope lyrics move on into underground (immortal technique, Cormega, Saigon, Tragedy Khadafi etc...)

Yeh i agree with the maker of this thread... but mainstream rap has been like that since 1992.

Not all of it is bad though... but if you want lyrically strong songs, check out some underground artists. Just be careful - before you buy an underground album or bootlegg it, download a few songs first. Underground artists are all different and they wont all appeal to you, even if they are good.

I can agree to you at some point, the entertainment industry realized what a market they could create off of Hip-Hop and blew it up. Now I'm not a pac nutrider but he definately wasn't just a rapper with hot beats. He had a versatile delivery and was one of the most political mainstream rappers ever (I know, not saying much), the same can be said for a number of mainstream cats. Recently nobody is bringing raw lyricism to the mainstream though IMO. I think Nas is up there, although he is falling off to a degree he can still spit better lyrics than half the scene right now.

Yeh D-Verb, but 1992 is when it started. It was completely sell out... by 1998 most mainstream rap became poo.
