"Dear Beloved Hiphop" Ms.Skillz4daze

In discussing the movie 'Brown Sugar' with some of my peeps quite a few months ago, I felt to write a letter to Hiphop but FOR some ppl who
badtalk the artform, not even knowin' wasup wittit. Anyway, I 'key'styled
(freestyling with computer keyboard) this and I hope that the message is taken as positively as I meant it.

Dear Beloved Hiphop,

What's up? Many know not of your roots and the purpose that you have
had since day one. They speak ill of you yet know little about you. To
make it so bad, many of them are your children and they do not even
know. You were conceived long before we came here but birthed in the flesh
from the hardships we faced all combined with the beautiful creativity
that we have always had. As I've said, people really have no idea. They
don't even know that originally "freestyling" was not just something
that was "cool to do". No, it was allowing the mouth to be a vessel for
those who came before us that had summin' to say. Likewise, breakdancing
was more than some "cool stuff", it also was allowing the body to be a
vessel for those who had summin' to say. Was it cool? Oh yes, but not
only this; it was release, it was healing, it was awareness, it was our
DRUM, which had been forbidden simply taking on another form. You were,
in all your "coolness" sacred.. Very sacred to the culture, to the
movement, to the people..

Ironically enough, many of the ones who needed to know that came to
forget or think otherwise while the ones who needed to try to keep you,
to keep us in check knew full well.. They laced you up and the people
smoked and smoked until they lost they' damn minds (excuse my language,
Hiphop, but you know how passion can mount). They were on some whole
new crap and it was just that; crap. After being so good to them for so
long, after giving to them what very few things could have even come
close to, they said to heck with you and talked about anything that made
them see dollar signs. Yes, they saw the "dollars", but they did not
recognize the "signs".. They simply could not have.

When Common Cents (Sense) came out with "I Used to Love Her", I in a
flash recognized the grand 'message'. So many of the
teachers were tired of being poor, but my, I do still wonder where
you would be now had not the ones you spoke for taken that funky joint;
had to have been a rock . Now look at that, Hiphop. I bet most didn't
even dig the code I just put down.. Speaking of which, that brings me to
another one of your dimensions (you have so very many); CODE! lol It's
something, because people are so used to looking at the obvious until
they are totally oblivious to the less than obvious. Code, Man.. Code.
Yo, without a doubt you could break it down like whateva ya want, but
when you were not all "up and in ya face" wittit, you were kicked back
like a warrior playing Chess, in 'da cut with some deep, sharp abstract.
lol Funny thing is ppl so programmed to always looking for the crap to
go down in loud talk and they run like chickens with they heads cut off
when the quiet storm blows them away.. What a wonder.

Anyway, I'm just keystyling you a lil' summin' right now. I know it's
gotta be real difficult for you, being a political prisoner and all,
but if you don't smile about anything else, dig this real quick. Whether
people are catching on to it or not, the "I'm a player" and the "I take
money from men and rap about it" and the "I got money, money, money. Oh
yes, look at my crib and my cars, I got money, money, money" crap is
quietly but surely fading out.

Soon there will be a dichotomy in this game that states "Have
something to say, represent properly OR say nothing at all". Yeah.. Remember
when emceez (street griots) KNEW they were just temples for spirits so
powerful to dwell in/speak through? Yeah well, like I said that other
crap is quietly but surely fading away and you are quietly but surely
(again) coming right forward to the forefront of The Struggle (which will
soon be known as The Victory). Imagine a person being fed balogna every
day and every night, all day, all night. Eventually (I don't care how
much they like that junk), they're going to get tired of it and
(especially if their health depends upon it and they want to live) they are
going to start wanting something that not only 'tastes' better but is
better for them. Well yeah, that's wasup. The people (and most of it don't
even know it yet) are gettin' tired of the balogna.

Well dig it, I'mma end this letter, but you know that my love for you
is like the arrow on a number line, infinite. I end this letter now,
but never my love and respect for you. Trust me, your day is coming again
real soon. In fact, it is already here; most of just don't know it yet.
I see it though.. I smell it, I "feel" it. You are all inside of me
because you are just a tool of the Great Ones. Don't worry, you are not
here in vain and your story will be told. As I've said, you are, at the
moment, a political prisoner but when you get back out, you will be
unstoppable. You will move individuals, you will move nations.

With Undying Love,
One who will help to tell your truth

I salute you.
