i litteraly just wrote this. my dog whom i have had for around 14 years has to be put down tomorow. so i wrote just a quick short story about it. i would post this in "short storys" but no one ever goes there. read it if you want, if not thats fine to.. im just really down about this.. this is RV theres gonna be haters im sure but if you dont have anything nice to say dont say anything please.. thank you


For a Friend

For the first time in what seems like a day past forever I actually feel like writing. In the past I’ve penned works that have been praised by some and booed by others but this I feel is my biggest challenge to date. Tomorrow on the 22nd of April 2005 I will lose my best friend, someone who has been there for the past umpteen years of my life. Now some may question my integrity on this subject, they will look down at my life long friend and say “but it is just a dog”, those who say such things just don’t know. My friend Butch is more than “just a dog” to me even though sometimes I may not have treated him right or yelled at him to much. He was always there when I was sad, when I was down about one thing or another I could reach out a hand and pat him on his soft brown head and soon his happiness overtook my grief and everything was ok. Even when god took my cousin at a far too early stage in her life and I questioned my faith and the world around me, Butch was there to lend a paw and to brighten my mood. A lot of people say that dogs and many other animals especially domesticated ones can scene when something is troubling their owners and that they have a special way of looking after them and cheering them up. I think that my friend is just like that.

When asked what I will miss most about such a special friend, so many things come to mind, simple things like late at night when I give him his doggy treats and bringing them up stairs for him to eat right outside my doorway. The crunching sound he makes when he gobbles up his dinner to fast. I will miss the way that after he has had a drink of water he would come over and put his dripping mouth on your leg and then prance off as if to say “thanks for the napkin Seth”. But most of all I think I will just miss having him there, being able to pet him on the head or rub his belly until his leg shook franticly. I think I am just going to miss him.

Tomorrow is the day that Dr. Ritchie will inject my elderly friend with a lethal dose of no more pain. Tomorrow is the day that all the achy joints and bad eyes are lifted and my best friend can finally be at ease. The past year or so of his life has been full of trips to Dr. Ritchie our family vet due to one thing or another. But no matter how bad he felt, my puppy always perked up during his visits, see he loved car rides and Dr. Ritchie has such a way with animals that I think Butch really liked him too. I owe a great deal to Dr. Ritchie. It is he who made it so through medications and regular visits that I was able to share this last special year with my best buddy. I just wish that there is more that can be done for Butch, but I suppose it is for the best.

Well old friend our journey seems to end here, but don’t you cry because some day our paths will cross again. Always remember that in my heart there is a little room reserved eternally for you and it is there where you will always live. So walk into the light not afraid for you leave behind all the pain and suffering of this world but never forget that I love you.
